The training sessions objective is to review the new Hospice PEPPER Report, including the history and background of PEPPER as well as a description of the areas at risk for improper Medicare payments. All the report details of percentiles and the comparison groups are reviewed as well. The next training session will demonstrate the Hospice PEPPER Report and review the reports to best utilize the free reports.

CMS published the free hospice-specific comparative data reports for hospices nationwide in late August. The Hospice PEPPER Report contains a single hospice’s claims data statistics for target areas that could be at risk. The two areas the report will reflect the live discharge rates and length of stay. All hospice providers received the Hospice PEPPER Report, which contains statistics for these target areas, regardless of whether or not the hospice’s data are of concern. The report shows how a hospice’s data compares to jurisdiction, state and national statistics.

The PEPPER Report is managed by TMF Health Quality Institute, a CMS contractor.
