The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will host a Special Open Door Forum: Future Development of the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Program on Thursday, January 24, 2013. The time for the presentation is from 12:30 – 2:00 PM EDT.
CMS and the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality (CCSQ), will present the plans for redesigning the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Programin future years. QIOs serve as the keystone of CMS’ national healthcare quality improvement program. QIOs convene providers, practitioners, and patients to build and share knowledge, spread best practices, and achieve wide-scale improvements in patient care, increases in population health, and decreases in health care costs for all Americans.
Medicare Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) work with consumers, physicians, hospitals, and other caregivers to refine care delivery systems to make sure patients get the right care at the right time, particularly among underserved populations.
QIOs safeguard the integrity of the Medicare program by ensuring payment is made only for medically necessary services, and investigates beneficiary complaints about quality of care.
Under the direction of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Medicare QIO program consists of a national network of 53 QIOs responsible for each U.S. state, territory, and the District of Columbia. Locate a QIO in your state.
During the Open Door Forum presentation, CMS will make a brief presentation and provide participants an opportunity to give verbal answers to a number of questions aimed at achieving the goals outlined above.
Discussion materials for this Special ODF will be available to download at http://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/QualityImprovementOrgs/Future.html by January 22, 2013.
CMS wants to receive specific feedback regarding the healthcare quality improvement community to shape the future of the QIO Program.
